This series of images explores the connection between people, place, and technology. Set in Japan, these photographs question what it means to have human relationships within a culture so inextricably linked to consumerism, yet profoundly grounded by a potent heritage. Though not meant to stigmatize, the images transmit the feeling of an outsider "looking into" an insular society. Loneliness, isolation, and alienation are sentiments born of urban life, made only stronger by lack of human connection. This is not a distinct attribute of Japanese culture, rather a shared trait of our hyper-connected world.
These images were taken in Tokyo and Kyoto in the winter of 2015 and early 2016.
